Hello, I'm Mike Swales and I'd like to tell you a little about myself. I am 40 years of age and have been married to Lizzy for seven years. We have three children, a daughter and two sons.
I started my computing career during service with the Royal Air Force (1978 to 1990) where I was heavily involved with computers, mainly in connection with Air Defence.
On leaving the Royal Air Force I joined the I.T Department of a Hi-Tech materials provider on the Cambridge Science Park, where I worked with PC's and Token Ring Networks. Unfortunately, I was made redundent after three years.
I then moved to a chilled food production company in south Lincolnshire where I again worked with PC's, which involved structured cabling, networking with Novell 4.11 and an IBM AS/400 system.
While I was there, I gained qualifications as a Health & Safety Executive and VDU Assessor. I was also Project Manager for the company's Laboratory Information Management System.
My last position was in the M.I.S department of a large food canning company. There I attended courses on various aspects of network administration and configuration.
Also, from my experiences while working in the I.T. industry, I have a practical knowledge of business applications, including Novell 4.11 Intranet Installation and Configuration, NT4, Windows 95/98, Microsoft Office 97, Lotus Domino / Notes 4.5, and many others.
For the last few years, as a hobby I have been building, upgrading and repairing PC's for friends and relatives, so I have "hands-on" knowledge of hardware, software and the problem solving skills required.
